What are the features of the cork lid?
Cork has been used in construction since the time of the ancient Egyptians. It is a highly insulating material and, above all, 100% natural. Cork is breathable: it allows the environment to breathe, preventing the formation of unwanted condensation and mould. Of course, the cork used must be of high quality, and the final piece crafted with respect for the unique characteristics of the material.
How to spot a counterfeit Marimo
A Marimo can be considered original and authentic only and exclusively if accompanied by a European Plant Passport, which certifies its species and origin. Any other form of certification (such as anti-counterfeit labels) issued by the retailer has no legal value.
Where can I find the Passport?
Every Marimo sold online must be shipped with a label bearing the European Plant Passport, or alternatively with the Passport printed on the packaging. Only Professional Operators registered with RUOP (the regional plant health service) are authorised to sell and certify Marimo.
How to know if a seller is authorised to sell Marimo
Every professional operator is required to display their registration number with the RUOP (Register of Professional Operators) on their website, either in the footer or among the legal information or contact section.
In addition to being registered with the RUOP at the Lombardy Region, our company works with biologists and expert cultivators who oversee the entire Marimo supply chain. They keep a daily log that is always available upon request, should it be needed for inspection by the competent authorities or by our customers.
Be wary of anyone claiming to import Marimo from Japan, or worse, from Japanese colonies.
Choose only Marimo accompanied by a European Plant Passport and sourced from cultivations. Damaging the few natural colonies left in the world for commercial purposes is neither possible nor in any way ethical. Buying a cultivated Marimo means improving its future chances of survival, and helping to preserve the wonderful legend tied to it.
